What are EZ outs?
A screw extractor is a tool for removing broken or seized screws. There are two types: one has a spiral flute structure, commonly called an easy out after the trademarked name EZ-Out; the other has a straight flute structure. One way to avoid this added difficulty is to drill a hole completely through the screw.

How do you make an easy out?
Each extractor has a drill bit size stamped on it, making selection a simple matter. Insert the easy out into the hole drilled in the center of the broken bolt or screw and then gently tap it home with a hammer so it bites into the metal of the bolt or screw.
How are countersinks sized?
Countersink diameter = 1.5 x Bolt Size Hole Diameter. Example: 1/4″-20 Bolt – Multiple the diameter (. 250) x 1.5 = 0.375. You will want to use a 3/8″ countersink.
Can you drill through an easy out?
Easy outs are not easy to drill. The metal is so hard that a regular or even a cobalt drill bit cannot touch it. An EZ Out and other tools like taps and drill bits we already mentioned have very hard metal compounds. This makes them very brittle and susceptible to breaking easily when too much force is applied.
